On September 21, 2022, NIH will be hosting a virtual meeting of the National Science Advisory Board for Biosecurity (NSABB). The NSABB is a federal advisory committee chartered to provide advice, guidance, and leadership regarding biosecurity oversight of dual use research.

NIH Hosting Two-Part Webinar on Implementing the NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy

The NIH Offices of Science Policy (OSP) and Extramural Research (OER) are co-hosting a webinar series focused on implementing the NIH Data Management and Sharing (DMS) Policy. In this webinar series, NIH policy experts will break down what the policy means for stakeholders and help the community get ready to successfully implement the policy when it takes effect on January 25, 2023.

The first webinar, Understanding the New NIH Data Management and Sharing (DMS) Policy will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2022, from 1:30 – 3:00 PM ET and focus on DMS policy expectations, the applicability of the policy, how to prepare a Data Management and Sharing Plan, and considerations for responsible data sharing.

Part two, Diving Deeper into the New NIH Data Management and Sharing Policywill take place Thursday, September 22, 2022, from 1:30 – 3:00 PM ET and dive deeper into specific topics and questions we’ve heard from the community, such as privacy protections for sharing data from human participants.

NIH Stakeholder Engagement Meeting on USG Policies for the Oversight of Life Sciences DURC – Format Change and Draft Agenda Now Available

*Please note that this meeting was originally intended to be a hybrid meeting held in person in Tempe, AZ. However, to ensure the health and safety of all invitees and to get maximum stakeholder feedback NIH has decided to make this meeting fully virtual.*

NIH is moving to an all-virtual stakeholder engagement meeting on June 29, 2022, to discuss the U.S. Government policies for the oversight of Dual Use Research of Concern (DURC).

The purpose of this meeting is to gather feedback from stakeholders about their experiences implementing these policies, the effect of these policies in terms of achieving their stated goals, the overarching definition of DURC, and possible alternative approaches for the oversight and responsible conduct of DURC.

This feedback will also be used to inform the discussions of the National Science Advisory Board for Biosecurity (NSABB) in fulfillment their current charge to evaluate and analyze the DURC policies.

NIH to Host Stakeholder Engagement Meeting on USG Policies for the Oversight of Life Sciences Dual Use Research of Concern

On June 29, 2022, NIH will continue its engagement of the biosecurity stakeholder community by hosting a meeting to discuss U.S. Government federal and institutional policies for the oversight of Dual Use Research of Concern (DURC).

The meeting will be held in-person at Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ. The event will also be webcast.
