Data Access Request (DAR) Approvals and Disapprovals by Data Access Committee (DAC)
Data Access Committee Review
NIH Data Access Committees (DACs) review all requests for access to datasets distributed through the database of Genotypes and Phenotypes (dbGaP). Some DACs are specific to a single NIH Institute or Center (IC), such as the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) and review only Data Access Requests (DARs) funded by and/or submitted to dbGaP through that IC. Other DACs represent multiple ICs with similar research goals, such as the Joint Addiction, Aging, and Mental Health (JAAMH) DAC, which includes the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, National Institute on Aging, and National Institute of Mental Health. In some cases, ICs have established DACs to manage data generated by specific research initiatives, such as The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). See the DAC Charge for further information.
