Cari Young

Biosafety, Biosecurity, and Emerging Biotechnology

Cari Young is the Acting Director of the Biosafety, Biosecurity, and Emerging Biotechnology Policy Division.  In her role, she provides key leadership on a number of policy issues, including those related to biosafety and biosecurity oversight, the NIH Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules, and emerging biotechnologies.

Prior to joining the Office of Science Policy, Cari served as the 14th American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) and National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) Genetics and Public Policy Fellow. Through this fellowship, she worked in the Policy and Program Analysis Brach at NHGRI and the ASHG policy office, as well as serving in the office of Senator Sheldon Whitehouse.

Cari holds a Master of Science degree from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Kenyon College.
