Impact Analysis

NIH’s mission is to support scientific research aimed at enhancing health, lengthening life, and reducing illness and disability, and there is evidence that throughout its 120 years of existence, NIH has contributed to many of the scientific breakthroughs that have led to tangible improvements in the health of the public. As a steward of public funds, NIH is responsible for using its resources effectively to address the many health challenges that face our nation and the world.  Therefore, NIH aims to better capture the outcomes of its activities in order to demonstrate accountability, inform its stakeholders, and improve upon its value.

The Office of Scientific Management and Reporting manages a range of efforts to capture and to report on the impact of NIH’s support of biomedical research.
