Health Services Research
NIH’s health services research (HSR) portfolio aims to study and build upon previous NIH-supported basic, clinical and translational discoveries and evidence that have moved into clinical practice, and translate research findings into evidence that informs medical practice. HCRPP staff identify, analyze and develop policy proposals and recommendations to advance the conduct health services research, including the collection and research use of real-world health data (i.e. electronic health records and personal health devices), and the dissemination and integration of findings into care to help patients and those who care for them. The program supports a range of science policy issues including promotion of cross-agency collaborations that facilitate the conduct and translation of health services research, enabling the use of NIH resources for health services research initiatives, supporting Meaningful Use Regulations under the Office of the National Coordinator, and implementation of the Affordable Care Act.
